Employee Volunteer Program
BMH Cares
The Boone Memorial Hospital Cares Program was developed in 2015 in an effort to reward employees for acts of servitude. Employees will receive up to 16 hours of pay when they give equivalent time serving the community.
“We feel servitude should be engrained into the hospital’s mission. When BMH first opened its doors in 1964 the slogan was ‘People Helping People.’ We want to continue with that tradition,” said hospital CEO Virgil Underwood. “Although many of our employees are already actively involved in the community we hope this will prompt
others to do the same to create a true culture of serving.”
“The employees are very excited and appreciate the incentive. It’s a nice way to reward staff for their generosity,” said Mark Linville, Chief Operating Officer.
The hospital holds various community events annually, which gives employees various options. They can also volunteer at community events held in Boone County such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and the United Way's Day of Caring. Some Hospital events include Lunch and Learns, Blood Drives, Health Fair, CORE (Center for Organ Recovery & Education) events, GO RED for Women programs and Flu Shot clinics.
“We have many opportunities for employees to serve so finding projects shouldn’t be a problem. Boone Memorial is filled with extremely caring people; many of whom make service part of their daily lives. The extra pay is one way to thank them for that service while in turn encouraging others.” concluded Underwood.
