"While I do feel the stigma has lessened for persons with mental illness, I certainly know it is still present and at times can prevent people from seeking treatment. I want people to know that the brain is an organ just like any other part of the body, just like a heart or lungs or a kidney. And sometimes, when a brain gets sick, it effects how people feel, how they think, and even sometimes what they see and hear. If someone had heart disease, they would not be judged for seeking treatment to help them get well. Having a mental illness is the same, and seeking treatment to become well or stay well is the same idea."
