The Logan Healthcare Foundation was created to improve the health status of, and access to health care for the residents of its “service area”, which includes the residents of Boone, Logan, Lincoln, Mingo, Wyoming counties and surrounding areas in West Virginia. By way of example and not limitation, the Foundation may engage in activities and expend funds to support primary care initiatives, physical and mental health programs, abuse prevention programs, smoking cessation programs, substance abuse prevention and treatment programs, vaccination services, women’s health services, and health and wellness activities. The corporation may also promote the adoption of health policies that will address the unmet health needs of the area’s residents.

Grant applications are reviewed by a Grant Advisory Committee with the final distribution approved by the Logan Healthcare Foundation’s Board of Directors. The Logan Healthcare Foundation accepted its first grant applications in 2006. As of December 31, 2015 the Logan Healthcare Foundation had awarded approximately 3.6 million dollars to successful area community and charitable grant seeking organizations. In February the foundation awarded Boone Memorial Hospital, located in Madison, $55,000 dedicated towards the purchase of a new Quantum Radiology Machine for its new facility. The new hospital is scheduled to open this year.

The Logan Healthcare Foundation’s President, John Earles, noted that its advisory committee, which is responsible for evaluating grant applications, was particularly impressed with the capabilities of the new Quantum Radiology machine. The committee was informed that Boone Memorial’s Radiology Department performs approximately 23,000 procedures per year and that the new digital machine will reduce patient radiation exposure by a significant amount. This machine utilizes digital technology, provides for greater capacity throughput, and will better serve the residents of Boone Memorial’s patient service area.

“We are grateful to the Logan Healthcare Foundation for their generous contribution to help purchase our new Quantum Radiology Machine,” said Boone Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Virgil Underwood. “This new digitized technology will equip our Radiology Department to provide better quality images to our patients.”
