Boone County Resident, Sandra Harvey shares her experience

Dr. Cassis with patient, Sandra Harvey

Sandra Harvey of Madison, WV didn’t expect to need cataract surgery at age 62, let alone two surgeries.

“I was shocked to hear that I needed cataract surgery but was relieved to find out I could have the procedure done so close to home. That made me feel more at ease,” said Sandra. “Plus I trust Dr. Cassis completely. He is just wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon.”

Sandra’s first surgery took place in the former Boone Memorial Hospital on April 29th. The second surgery was performed on July 8th in the new hospital, which opened its doors on June 25th.

“The new hospital is amazing,” said Sandra. “Everything is so new and clean. I prefer BMH over any other facility, then and now.”

Sandra explained that she had a very short wait time in the waiting room and was quickly brought in to one of 6 new pre-op rooms. Boone Memorial Hospital has 2 surgical suites, including 6 pre-op rooms and 7 post-op rooms, all new.

“Our surgery department has the newest state of the art surgical rooms that we are excited to offer to excellent surgeons like Dr. Cassis. Our staff is working diligently to prepare for the different types of surgery we will be offering such as general surgery, podiatry and gynecology. In addition we currently offer endoscopies and colonoscopies. I am very proud to be a part of the Boone Memorial Hospital family to ‘bring medicine home’, said BMH OR Director, Kathy Pauley.

“The process all the way from registration, to pre-op, to surgery and post-op went so smoothly. It was fast, yet thorough,” said Sandra. “Dr. Cassis is so intelligent and in addition to being a great surgeon you can’t find a kinder person between him and his wife, Lisa, who assists Dr. Cassis. He’s the same person in the office as he is out. I admire him and trust him wholeheartedly with my eyes.”

Cassis is Board Certified in Ophthalmology, from the American Board of Ophthalmology. He graduated from the West Virginia University School of Medicine and did his Residency in Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio.

Post-Op Rooms

“It’s a great convenience when patients don’t have to travel far and can have their surgery in a state of the art facility like the “new” Boone Memorial Hospital. The hospital staff has been exceptionally kind and efficient. By combining with our local referring optometrists, our “eye core team” can eliminate significant travel for our patients,” said Dr. Cassis.

Cassis performs a number of eye procedures. Some of which include abscess or fluid incision and drainage, cataract removal, cataract lens fitting, cornea surgery and transplant, eye and eyelid surgery, foreign body removal, glaucoma surgery, reconstructive eyelid surgery and many more.
