On Tuesday, April 23rd, approximately 40, fifth grade students from Ramage Elementary School visited Boone Memorial Hospital.

Students were placed in two separate groups and led on a one-hour tour throughout the facility by Human Resource Director, Kelley Epling and Marketing and Public Relations Director, Karlie Belle Price.

"The students were very well behaved and respectful throughout the entire tour," said Price.

"We enjoyed having them."

A staff representative from each department spent a few minutes sharing college/certification requirements, salary expectations, career benefits, as well as challenges of their position. Departmental stops included Laboratory, Radiology, Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy, Surgery, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, The Black Lung Center, Emergency Room and the Inpatient Floor.

During lunch, hospital Registered Nurse and Manager, Stuart Haugen spent time talking to the students about careers in nursing and management as well as other career opportunities within a hospital.

"Some of these students will be future healthcare providers here," said Epling. "Allowing students to tour the facility, even at a young age, helps guide them with career selection down the road," she concluded.
