At its annual hospital award's banquet, held Thursday May 2nd, Boone Memorial Hospital awarded Adam Richardson the coveted title of Employee of the Year 2019.
"I was so shocked," said Adam. "There are so many people at the hospital who are deserving of this award."
Adam is Manager of the Emergency Department, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and Instructor in PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Adam received his Nursing Degree from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
While Adam wears many hats, he says the most enjoyable part of his job is the diversity and the people.

"The Emergency Department is always changing and evolving. There are new tasks and challenges every day. The thing I like most about Boone Memorial, as a whole, is the family atmosphere. Employees and patients are treated like people and not just a number."
Adam's boss and Chief Nursing Officer, Terri Castle, made the nomination:

It reads:
"Adam Richardson, ED Nurse Manager, has really stepped up to become a role model of the ideal Boone Memorial Hospital employee. He portrays professionalism, is respectful to others, dedicated to his position and a good leader to his staff. We have a strong bunch of ER nurses reflected by his leadership skills.
Just this year, Adam has been successful in accomplishing his projected goals. To name a few, he is project leader in the ED Safety Team, has played a big role in Disaster Preparedness and has led a successful regional disaster drill that tested hospital preparedness for evacuation, incorporated Live Process (telephone notification system) within the hospital to notify key players of important information during an emergency, stepped in to coordinate nursing education when the need arose to ensure that everyone obtained their certifications, obtained multiple supplies and medications in preparation for the ARK (Always ready for kids) certification that secures proper treatment and emergency management of children in our ED, revamped the orientation process for the ED and led two important quality and safety projects in the ED; EDIE and Tele-stroke. Adam has even extended himself to revamp the orientation and competency process for ED nurses and support staff.
Adam is always willing to step up and complete a process upon request without hesitation and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that a job gets done efficiently and effectively. His staff respects him and works with him to ensure great quality care. He is one of the best and should be recognized for his hard work and dedication. As a CNO, I could never ask for a better manager."
Co-worker and friend, Stuard Haugen adds, "BMH is lucky to have someone with his level of quality and experience in charge of our Emergency Department." Stuard is the Manager of the Nursing Floor.
Adam currently resides in Foster with his wife of eight years, Stephanie.
"We met working at Thomas Memorial Hospital," said Adam. "She's the love of my life and the
glue that holds our family together."

He and Stephanie have four children; Emma Grace, 13; Wyatt Noah, 6; Sawyer Luke, 3; and Novaleigh Faith, 1. Emma and Wyatt attend school at Christian Faith Academy. Adam's loving and supportive parents are Gary and Karen Richardson.
In his spare time, Adam enjoys spending time with his family, attending church at the Fountain of Life Worship Center and being outdoors.
"My wife and I also enjoy coaching softball for the local league together."
In addition, Adam is a Board Member for BCAA (Boone County Ambulance Authority) and the Ethics and Education Committee at Boone Memorial Hospital.
Adam humbly says he owes his accomplishments to his staff.
"I have an excellent staff. I dedicate this award to the entire Emergency Department."
