BMH Welcomes Dr. Robert "Bob" Atkins, Family Medicine

Boone Memorial Hospital is pleased to welcome home Dr. Robert "Bob" Atkins.

Dr. Atkins has over 40 years experience in Family Medicine. He graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Charleston Area Medical Center and Kanawha Valley Family Practice Center. Dr. Atkins is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

Dr. Atkins served as Chief of Staff at Boone Memorial from 1987-1991 and again in 2006 and 2007. In addition, he was the Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at the West Virginia School of Medicine, a Medical Advisor to Boone County Schools, Principal Investigator for the AHRQ Planning Grant via the Boone County Community Care Network and a member of the West Virginia State Healthcare Redesign Workgroup. He comes to BMH from Southern West Virginia Health Systems (Madison location)-formerly known as Madison Medical.

Dr. Atkins is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice (FAAFP) and a professional member of the American Medical Association, including State and local societies. He is a Board Member of the West Virginia University Alumni and Friends, Boone County Chapter, where he held the title of President from 1990-1991. Dr. Atkins also served as Campaign Chairman and past Board Member of the Boone County United Way and was President of the Madison Rotary.

Dr. Atkins and his wife, Jane, have been married 41 years. They have four children; Shannon, Jessica, Kyle and Megan, all of whom are West Virginia University Graduates. In addition, brothers Joe and Ed are both graduates of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.

In his spare time, Dr. Atkins enjoys golfing and spending time with his family.
