Boone Memorial Hospital Celebrates National Surgical Technologists Week

Boone Memorial Hospital celebrates National Surgical Technologists week. Held September 19th-25th, the week is dedicated to recognizing surgical techs and the dedication and hard work they give all year.

In 1984, the Association of Surgical Technologists Board of Directors dedicated the third week in September to recognizing the profession and has done so every year since. It has become a national celebration.

"Our operating room and entire team is top notch," said Terri Castle, RN, BMH Chief Nursing Officer. "If you’ve ever wondered how operating rooms seem to run so smoothly, you have a surgical technologist to thank. They’re responsible for properly setting up the room, arranging necessary equipment, and even assisting physicians during surgery."

Surgical technologists are essential – not only in the operating room – but to kids and families, to local nonprofits, churches and charities, to local businesses, to neighborhoods, causes and communities, to friends and colleagues, to the profession and to the public. Surgical technologists are essential every day in so many ways!

"They have some extremely important job duties," said Scott Terlikowski, RN, Director of BMH Surgical Services. "They make the operating room efficient while ensuring patient safety. I'm very proud of our two Certified Surgery Technologists (CST); Landyn McKinney and Judy Puckett. They go above and beyond. We truly appreciate all they do!"

Boone Memorial celebrated Landyn and Judy with a gift (T-shirt), cake and catered lunch with the BMH Surgical Team.
