Update from Boone Memorial Hospital regarding COVID-19 vaccinations to the community

The West Virginia COVID-19 Vaccination Program is managed by the West Virginia Joint Interagency Task Force for Vaccinations. The Task Force, following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and its own epidemiological data, has prioritized certain groups to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Boone Memorial Hospital continues to receive doses to vaccinate its personnel and staff members who choose to receive it. However, the state and federal authorities, at this time, have allocated and distributed vaccinations for those 70 years of age or older to local Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHC’s) and local health departments.

“At this time, hospitals have not been designated to give vaccines to community members. In the event that this scenario changes, BMH is willing and stands ready to administer vaccines when permitted to do so by state agencies,” said Terri Castle, RN, BSN (Chief Nursing Officer/Incident Commander).
